We’re looking for skilled Bakers to produce fresh, artisanal breads, rolls, and viennoiserie. You’ll handle dough preparation, operate commercial bakery equipment, and maintain consistent product quality and texture. What you will do
Duties & responsibilities
Baking Production
- Prepare and bake a wide variety of bakery products, including traditional and artisanal breads, rolls and viennoiserie
- Follow recipes accurately and ensure that products are consistent in terms of quality, size, and texture.
- Operate bakery equipment such as mixers, ovens and dough sheeters.
Dough Preparation
- Mix, knead, and shape dough for various bread and pastry products.
- Monitor dough fermentation, proofing, and baking times to ensure the best product outcomes.
- Adjust ingredient proportions as necessary to account for variations in production or environmental conditions.
Hygiene and Safety Compliance
- Ensure all bakery equipment and workstations are cleaned and sanitised regularly.
- Follow proper food handling and safety procedures, adhering to all hygiene and safety standards.
- Comply with temperature control and storage protocols for ingredients and finished products.
Inventory Management
- Monitor inventory of baking supplies and report any shortages to the Head Baker and Pastry.
- Ensure proper stock rotation of ingredients and use FIFO (First In, First Out) practices.
- Assist with receiving and storing supplies, checking for quality and freshness.
Customer Service
- Assist with stocking bakery shelves and displays, ensuring products are attractively presented and replenished throughout the day.
- Respond to customer inquiries or special orders, providing excellent service and product recommendations.
- Assist in preparing products for in-store promotions or special events.
Quality Control
- Ensure all products meet the supermarket’s quality standards in terms of taste, texture, and presentation.
- Adjust baking techniques as needed to improve quality or meet customer preferences.
- Regularly check the consistency of baked goods, ensuring they are fresh and visually appealing.
Other
Any other task from time to time.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years work experience in retail
- Minimum matric/diploma
- A recent SAPS clearance
- A valid medical certificate
