Position overview

We’re hiring Skilled Merchandisers to ensure that shelves are fully stocked, well-organised, and aligned with store merchandising standards. You’ll rotate stock, set up promotional displays, and help manage inventory accuracy. This role is perfect for detail-oriented individuals who enjoy creating appealing product displays and ensuring a smooth customer shopping experience.

What you will do

Duties & responsibilities

Stocking & Replenishing Shelves
  • Stock shelves with new products and rotate older products to ensure items with the nearest expiration dates are at the front.
  • Regularly replenish stock on shelves, especially during peak hours, to keep aisles fully stocked.
  • Ensure shelves are neat, organised, and well-arranged according to product categories and store layout.
Product Display & Merchandising
  • Arrange products following store display standards and agreed supplier planograms to create an appealing and easy-to-navigate shopping experience.
  • Set up promotional displays and endcaps, ensuring featured items are placed prominently for customer visibility.
  • Place accurate and up-to-date pricing labels, signage, and promotional tags for products on shelves.
Inventory Management
  • Assist with counting and managing inventory to ensure stock accuracy, particularly during restocking and inventory audits.
  • Monitor inventory levels and inform the Grocery Controller of low-stock items or potential shortages.
  • Identify and remove expired, damaged, or unsellable products from shelves in line with company policy.
Customer Assistance
  • Assist customers by answering questions, helping them locate products, and providing product information when needed.
  • Support customers with inquiries about in-stock products, substitutions, or out-of-stock items.
Aisle Maintenance & Cleanliness
  • Keep the grocery aisles clean, organised, and free of clutter to ensure safety and accessibility.
  • Sweep, clean, and ensure aisles are clear of debris, empty boxes, or other obstacles.
  • Regularly check that shelves, product facings, and the aisle environment meet cleanliness and safety standards.
Receiving & Unloading Stock
  • Assist in receiving and unpacking grocery deliveries, verifying the accuracy of shipments, and reporting discrepancies to the Grocery Controller.
  • Transport items from the receiving area to the shelves, using carts or other equipment to handle heavier items safely.
Loss Prevention
  • Monitor and report any suspicious activities to prevent theft or loss of merchandise.
  • Follow store protocols for handling damaged goods and reporting any shrinkage or discrepancies to management.
Other

Any other task from time to time.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years work experience in retail
  • Minimum matric/diploma
  • A recent SAPS clearance
  • A valid medical certificate
